Online Interaction Between Instructors and Students
The quality of online interaction between instructors and students can be measured in several ways. Online social comfort refers to a student’s comfort level in expressing opposing views or feelings. This study concluded that anxiety during online class interaction was insignificant, though other studies have found the opposite. Here are three ways to measure online social comfort.
The first step in improving your online interactions is to use communication tools provided by the school. Some of these tools include e-mail, discussion groups, chat rooms, office hours, and cell phones. Use all available resources to help students with their problems or questions. Do not be shy about using online communication tools; instructors want to help you succeed. Using social media or Zoom is an excellent way to keep the conversation flowing.
In the process of creating an online course, instructors must consider student interactions. These interactions should encourage collaboration among students. They should also encourage information sharing and foster a sense of community among students. In addition to providing students with interactive tools, instructors should also encourage them to post questions or insights about the course. These students should be able to respond to all forms of outreach from instructors and other students. The online interaction between instructors and students should be as productive as the physical interaction between instructors and students.

These interactions may occur through discussion forums, periodic live webinar sessions, instant messaging within a course, instructor podcasts, or other means. Students may request course materials or send questions to their instructors. These interactions are vital to the success of online education. These interactions foster student engagement. But to be effective, these interactions must be two-way.
